Automated Pick Up and Delivery of Hospital Lab Samples

SESTO Element AMR equipped with customised shelves securely transferred lab specimens around the laboratory autonomously. With close to 30 trips per day, multiple LIDARs are installed on the AMR to navigate safely through narrow pathways, sensitive equipment and automatic doors. This improved the technicians’ productivity by eliminating downtime in the transfer of lab specimens. 

Challenges: 

  • High volume of specimen delivery (close to 30 trips per day)

  • Difficult navigation within a human rich hospital facility

  • High risk and cost of human error

  • Opportunity cost of manual delivery

 

Solution:

The AMR is equipped with customized shelves to fit carriers to securely transfer the specimens around the laboratory autonomously. Multiple LIDARS are installed to navigate safely through narrow pathways, sensitive equipment, automatic doors. SESTO Element AMR triggers buzzers to alert staff upon arrival and upon pick-up/drop-off. The AMR is also integrated to open doors, enabling it to travel from room to room with ease.

 

Outcome:

With the implementation of these autonomous mobile robot from SESTO Robotics, these outcomes are achieved:  improved technicians’ productivity in the lab by eliminating downtime in the transfer of lab specimens and ensuring that these specimens are transported safely and without compromise between locations in a dynamic laboratory environment.
