From Robot Deployment to Workflow Automation:

Key Takeaways from the SP–IMDA AMR Tech Discovery Workshop

A robot can move perfectly and still fail to improve the operation.

That was one of the key conversations SESTO Robotics brought to the Singapore Poly–IMDA AMR Tech Discovery Workshop on 6th Aug 2026, which highlighted an important reality of automation: successful AMR deployment starts with understanding the workflow, not simply selecting a robot.

 

Start With the Workflow

Before choosing an AMR, organisations need to understand how materials currently move through their operations and where automation can create meaningful improvements.

A successful deployment requires organisations to:

  • Select the right use case — identify repetitive or inefficient material-handling processes where automation can deliver practical value.
  • Design the complete material flow — consider pickup and drop-off points, routes, system interfaces and interactions with existing equipment.
  • Assign clear operational ownership — establish who will manage, monitor and support the AMR operation after deployment.
  • Define what success means — measure outcomes beyond completing a pilot, such as productivity, material flow efficiency, manpower optimisation and scalability.

 

 

Moving Beyond the AMR Specification

During the fireside chat, our CEO, Mr Chor-Chen (Chorch) Ang, shared practical perspectives on how AMRs can support logistics and material-handling workflows.

The discussion highlighted that autonomous mobile robot specifications are only one part of an automation project. Integration, process readiness and organisational ownership are equally important when moving from a successful pilot to sustainable day-to-day operations.

For manufacturers and industrial operators, this means looking beyond questions such as payload, speed and navigation technology.

The bigger question is:

How will the AMR fit into the overall workflow and improve the way materials move?

Our engineering team also demonstrated the SESTO MagLift MP400L, showcasing how automated lifting and material movement can support manufacturing and industrial workflows.
